Burnmouth was designed by Boston architect William Ralph Emerson and built by contractor John E. Clark in 1885-86. The original owner was W.B. Walley. The house was located on Eden Street.
This photograph shows the original porch of the house, which was significantly altered in 1926. The house was torn down in 1979, and the grounds became the site of a hotel.
Writing on the back of the photograph reads:

The cottage name is sometimes misspelled as Bournemouth.
